The Nipper program commences at 1.30 p.m. and concludes at 4.00 p.m. The younger groups, Under 6 and Under 7’s finish at 3.30 p.m. Please be at the club by 1.00 p.m. to give yourself time to “sign on” your child(ren).
The Somerton Parents Handbook can be accessed by clicking here.
As nippers progress through the age groups, they are able to participate in board paddling, surfing, swimming, sprinting, wading and fun activities and games, dependent on their ages and abilities. At Somerton the emphasis is on having fun whilst developing skills.
Practising these skills helps develop competence and confidence in the surf environment. It also allows children to compete in Club and State Lifesaving carnivals. Through SLSSA, nippers have the opportunity to participate in junior development camps throughout the season.
Most Under 14 Nippers undertake a Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC). Probationary surf life savers can achieve this award from the age of 13 years and this helps and prepares them for active patrolling duties with Somerton SLSC. The award trains candidates in rescue skills, first aid and patient management, resuscitation and a theoretical component exploring safety knowledge and surf awareness.
We hope that you will come and enjoy the surf life saving season at Somerton Nippers. Further information can be found by accessing the drop down tabs above or by emailing the Junior Administration Officer at firstname.lastname@example.org
